Dishonored, the new adventure from Bethesda and Arkane Studios, is scheduled to be released on September 25, 2012. Although the official release date has not been announced, both Best Buy Canada and FutureShop.ca listed the date —albeit accidently.
If the pricing stays at the usual rate for new games, you can pick up a copy of Dishonored on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC on launch day for $59.99. Keep in mind, certain retailers, especially those who deal mostly with online sales such as Amazon, may offer discounts. We’ll know closer to the game launch what retailers are offering what and post each deal here.
As far as the launch day is concerned, it has not been confirmed by Bethesda. Although the date seems plausible and concrete, it’s pretty ballsy. This particular date (September 25, 2012) falls closely with the highly anticipated release from Gearbox, Borderlands 2, releasing in September 18, 2012 in the US and September 21, 2012 in the UK.
Since our last post, Bethesda has released six new additional screenshots for the game. Although we have included three in this post, you can check the rest out on the Dishonored official Facebook page.
What we know so far
Players will take the role of an Empress’s bodyguard, named Corvo. The game starts with Corvo being falsely imprisoned for her murder. As a skilled combatant and with the aid of supernatural powers and weapons, he’ll embark on an adventure to seek revenge on those who wronged him, and find answers to unanswered questions –all in a steam punk atmosphere.
The FAQ section in the Bethesda forums give us a good insight on the game dynamics. For one, the developers created the game with a “play your way” method in mind:
“In Dishonored, you will be able to find and exploit your own play-style. Whether you prefer several flavors of stealth, trickery or direct combat, the player will be able to make gameplay style choices throughout the game, second to second. However, the game is tuned so that direct combat is intense.”
As a huge RPG fan, I’ll be sure to pick up a copy. I’ve enjoyed the Fallout games as well as their recent Elders Scrolls: Skyrim adventure. A new Skyrim DLC is scheduled at a summer release date this year, while a new Kinect enabled update offering over 200 voice controls can be picked up today.
