iOS 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak Status – Weeks Away

It seems that the moment we have all been waiting for is closing in. In a recent tweet posted by the famous pod2g, the ETA for the 5.1 untethered jailbreak is “weeks away.”

Earlier today, he posted a video (see below) demonstrating an iPad 3 running iOS 5.1 with an untethered jailbreak.  The jailbreak theoretically will work on all iOS devices with the exception of the third generation Apple TV. This is likely due to its basic interface, thus limited vulnerabilities to exploit.

It also seems that he is being hounded by many asking for betas. The jailbreak gurus surely have learned a lesson from the whole Comex fiasco last year. When a douchebag got his hands on the unfinished jailbreak, he published it along with a video demonstration. Since this allowed Apple to check out the vulnerability used for the exploit, Comex, in turn, was placed on an unnecessary rushed schedule to release the complete bug-less version before an official update closed the gap. He succeeded.

Regardless, pod2g won’t accept offers for beta testers, not even for a mil. His next goals are to test the jailbreak on the recently released iOS 5.1.1 and complete a “nice, user friendly tool”. Remember, you can still jailbreak your devices untethered by following the guide our jailbreak tutorial)

(Update: pod2g has confirmed the untethered jailbreak works on his iPad running iOS 5.1.1 via Twitter)

(Update 2: Here is the updated link on the current state of the upcoming untethered jailbreak)

Since purchasing the new iPad, I’ve missed the tweaks that I have grown to love on my iPad 2. I’m eagerly awaiting the jailbreak and I know I’m not alone. What apps or tweaks will you be installing first? B

No matter what, the untethered jailbreak will be out soon. Remember to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or add us to your circle on Google+ to stay updated!

no one know for sure, but he didn’t run into any hiccups with 5.1.1. My guess is probably within a week.
